Hi,

I have bought a raw western red cedar entry/front door that I plan to finish with only Sikkens Cetol HLSe (three coats). I know the usual method is one coat of HLSe and two coats of Sikkens Filter 7 but I am trying for the 'dry' look with no lacquer. I would prefer not to use Filter 7. I have heard that you can do the door in only HLSe with three coats, but I was wondering from practice if anyone has done that and their experiences with its durability? I am guessing I might need a reapplication every year or so?

Note: The SIkkens Cetol product is called 'HLSe' in Australia but I believe it may be called just HLS or HLS extra (or similar) in other countries.

The door will be under an awning (facing North in Australia, i.e. south in Nth America) with the potential for some winter sun on the bottom half of the door (when the angle is low). It will also have minimal rain (possibly only in super windy storms). No snow, although temps hit -10'C to 40'C.

Any suggestions/comments on your experience with WRC doors and HLSe would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
