G’Day all
My name is Chris, I am nearly 58 (a couple of weeks to go) Married to Denny for the past 39 years I love the play with wood Denny loves to play with sewing machines. I retired about two years ago to become my wife’s carer. The nickname “calman” is from the many years I spent supporting our daughter and many other young ladies as a “team manager for South Australian Calisthenics State Teams” a large part of this title was to design and make stage dressings/properties to help tell the story of the item. I guess the biggest prop I made would be the golden gates to heaven nearly 3m high and 3 m wide, freestanding pair of gates made with wooden frame and 3mm MDF with polystyrene foam glued on then shaped with the jig saw.
Shortly after retirement, in 2009, we moved to Gin Gin in Queensland, lasted nearly 10 months (missed the kids and grandkids) and are now back in good old Adelaide.
Since returning to Adelaide, I have purchased a small lathe and teaching myself via the vast amount of information on the internet etc. I have successfully turned a number of pens, and other small items, still practicing and looking for new challenges.
Our son and his partner are about to have a new arrival and asked if I could make a change table for them (looking for ideas is how I found this forum) so I guess that is my next challenge – never really made furniture before but here we go.
Looking forward to actively participating in the forum
Chris (calman)

G'Day and Welcome Chris,
This is a top forum with a bunch of helpful blokes & ladies.
While you mentioned turning don't forget the grandkids;
they'd love some old fashion homemade toys.
Enjoy your woodwork.
Cheers, Crowie
