New member.
Hello everyone, my name is John and on weekends I live in Sydney... thats where I get to relax by playing in the garage with wood and wood-working toys.
Ive been stationed in Canberra for the past three months by my employer so I dont get as much time in my little workshop as I'd like... hopefully that will change soon.
I enjoy the simple pleasure of creating things from timber and using the skills that I have learnt from others/ taught myself. I have an appreciation for anything created by hand, as small imperfections of handwork give things the personality of their creator. (Having said that, I'm not anti-machine either).
I am anxious to share my knowledge on this forum and am keen to see what knowledge you all have to share. This simple act of sharing knowledge keeps our craft alive and promotes friendship... both good things.
I have experience in construction carpentry (although that is not what pays the bills) equally I am interested in small-scale woodwork such as furniture, boxes etc. I learnt the bascs from my dad who was a carpenter and have built upon this knowledge over the years. I still have some of my first tools (back when childrens tool sets were made from steel, not plastic) and some actually are quite handy. It made me quietly proud when I used these tools (among others) to acomplish the rennovations to my first home.
I am currently building a router table (the research of which originally led me to this forum). When its finished I'll put some pictures up for you to see (I wonder how I can stand out from the crowd... there's so many out there). I only get two (sometimes less) days a week to work on it so progress is slow but steady (as my wife is about to file a missing persons report because I'm always in the workshop). This forum has given me plenty of direction and ideas.
Outside of woodwork, fishing and snowboarding are what you need to talk about to get my attention (as well as anything technical).
