Default Myrtle & Huon Pine Table Project

Here is the 2 x 1.1 meter Myrtle Huon Pine table top Ive been working on. I live in Hobart Tas and took a 2 hour return drive to get this timber for it about a week ago. I then took it to a local joiner and he straightened the edges and biscuit it for me to glue together for only $40. I then touched up the edges a little more by hand the following day.

The last day Ive spent straightening and sanding it.
I am using feast watson tongue oil on it as i know the kids will mark it and I need to be able to touch it up easily when that happens. The natural holes are filled with epoxy resin, once I oil it will darken the table and match the epoxy to the table more closely.

There is a lot a variation in the colour of Tas Myrtle, these peices are nice in colour and grain, the side rails are also myrtle but more decorative.
The harder myrtle encases and protects the softer Huon Pine a little.

Next Project to make the base !!!

Love it... can't wait to see how it comes up
It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

    Hi Timstools,
The 2 part epoxy resin, is it ok to sand over resin after filling the holes. I have a similar issue coming up this week with same camphor laurel.
Pls ensure we get a piccie of the finished product.

    cheers

    Thanks for your nice comments.

I am keeping the natural edge on it as I love natural edge especially when its given a light sand with a hard block to highlight the high points on the edge.

The resin is called epiglass, it is very nice to sand, I worked my way up through the different grades to get the resin very glossy, the rest I will keep low sheen finish with the tung oil, I like the effect it gives, it looks like a pool of clear water. Im working on the legs today, will post more photos.
    Regards Tim

Your wife has good taste. Fantastic job, and I love the figured Myrtle aprons! I also like the "cloud lift" accent on the aprons, gives it a Greene and Greene flavour and suite the piece well.
