Wonder if someone can help me with some ideas to level a timber floor for a new hearth I'm having to put down for a new wood burner.
I'm taking out an existing chimney stack and the new hearth will be sitting on a combination of uneven floorboards and part of the base of the chimney stack I'm removing.
Is there a product I can use to level the timber floor/base of old stack such as floor leveling compound used for uneven concrete floors? Someone suggested to me I build a perimeter (of thin timber battens) around the area where the hearth will sit, level the battens up and pour something like gib cove adhesive into it and screed it off level to the top of the timber battens. The adhesive apparently dries rock hard and will not crack if there is slight movement in the timber floor. Any ideas if this would work OK or other suggestions?

Thanks

Tim
