    Default Carrier inverter airconditioners

Anybody know anything about these? I need some troubleshooting advice.

    Cheers

Thanks Buzz. Turns out they are still under warranty so someone is coming out later in the week to have a look. We've got two and both aren't working on heating or dehumidify. Discovered this when I tried to use them to help dry out our carpets after the flooding from the rain we had a little while ago.

Mic don't forget that on heating they will have a five min timer to alow for defrost even when they first start up. They also will not start untill the indoor coil temp is high enough that they will not blow out cold air when the fan does start to run. (which is after five min or so. Allow 10 min.

Yeah, we allowed an hour or so, still nothing from the outside unit. I'll let you know what the tech finds.

I might be in the wrong age group, I have been out of air conditioning for about 9 years now.

Yes, he was with them 2006-07. I'll talk to you Tuesday. I'm off up north to hug some trees!

    Just a comment mic FWIW

Last winter we required service on a Carrier u/f heating system where we were renting.

It took about 3 weeks to get an appointment out of them. Three times they phoned on the day, (where I was sitting at home waiting having taken time off) to cancel, with no sorry or explanation.

Finally spat the dummy and told them to rack off, and found someone else.

What Alastair said. I've found Carrier's service to be abysmal - expensively abysmal.

Be interested to hear the outcome.

Our LG is acting up intermittently, with similar symptoms, particularly with the sudden cold snap, (figures doesn't it). Bloke is coming Sat to look at it.

My make is that low on gas, and there is some kind of overload/ limiting function which is kicking in, but we'll see

Technician came out on Friday. Printed circuit board on one was broken, the other one is working fine now.

Al, you could be right, sort of, if low on gas it may drop out on low pressure/low temp safety, or being low on gas the outdoor unit ices up too quickly and keeps shunting it onto defrost cycle. Or a any of a dozen diferent things ie pc board as mic had. Old school units were much better when they didn't have all those unnecessary electronics.
It sounds better for them when they charge you for a new MOTHER BOARD $250 than a new defrost timer $25.

Bloke came out, checked out motor, capacitors, gas, amperages etc.

Reckons that unit is OK, but likely Wed colder temps, plus very damp conditions under the house, where the outside fan draws from, meant that the unit was having to de-ice more often. I had then bollixed the logic by resetting at the mains, and made things worse.

    Seems to be fine now.

Good bloke, Sat am service call, 1 1/2 hrs on site, checked gas, motor etc, and quoted me for a possible second unit install, Bill was $70.

If you are in the Hornsby area, I can recommend him.

Carrier would have charged more than that to turn up & scratch their bum for half an hour, then come back in another two weeks with a part for another couple of hundred.
    You done good.
