Ciao from WA
Hello
I have lived in WA for around 7 years, my father is an excellent cabinet maker from Italy. I grew up in his workshop and learned so much from him. I love doing antique restoration, stain and varnish especially. I am thinking about opening up my own business and have no idea on what to charge for this kind of work. Do I charge hourly or by the job? If anyone can help I would really appreciate it.
Thanks so much
Dionigi

I change how I charge from job to job, depends what you are doing and if you can calculate your time and materials accuratly enough. If it is able to be calculated say 4hours labour, glue, sandpaper, some finish then give them a quote if they want one otherwise I give them an accurate estimate but tell thim it may change a bit either way depending on whatever the unknown factors are. Most people seem to be happy with this if they insist on a quote then cover yourself with some to spare. You will soon get the hang of it when you find yourself working for nothing to cover a miscalculation. Good luck and Ciao. Although I'm not sure we Ciao on the forum. ( Can I get a rulling on that please ?? )
