Deck building question-Beams/Joist sizes
I am building a deck 20 x14 or 20 x16. The 20ft will run alog the house and the 14ft or 16ft will go out from the house into the yard. The deck will be about 4-5 foot off the ground. I have most of the wood. The Ledger will be 2 x 8, the posts are 4 x 6, I have 2 x 8 x 16 for the Joists, and 2 x 10's for the beam. (1) how far max out from the house can I go with the 2 x 8 joists? Is 14 or 16 too long for a 2 x 8 joist. (2) Are four posts supporting the 20 ft enough? (3) How far out from the house should I put the posts? (4) Would I need to install more posts and another Beam closer to the house?
