    Default Dead thicknesser?

I bought a T-330 thicknesser from Hare & Forbes last november. To-date, all it has done is thickness the bits of Oak for the little side table I made, two small bits of Elm for Afro Boy's bench legs and a handful of pen blanks for some forum members.

I'm about to make three-legged table, so today, I fed one pieces of Ash for the legs through the thicky and went to answer the phone. I went out again and switched the thicky on to finish the other two legs when it began buzzing, throwing out sparks from the motor cover and the thing stank to high heaven.

I unplugged the thicky and suspecting brush problems, I removed both brushes, but they're fine.

Is my thicky dead? It really hasn't had any appreciable use which is dissapointing to say the least.

That's what I thought. I called Hare & Forbes and the thicky is going back to them on Saturday under warranty.

For those times when things are out of warranty, check your home contents policy. Years ago, we had a very troublesome Wilkins Service washing machine. It wasn't a patch on the one Mum used to have, and one of its problems wa a fused motor.

    Expressly covered by contents insurance.

We reckon our machine was the cause of WS going broke!

Thanks John, I would never thought of that. As it turned out, H&F repaired the motor and it seems fine now - well for the brief minute I ran it to check it actually works.

It's noiser than it used to be, but when I rang H&F about this, they said it's fine and to continue using it. It's still under waranty, so who am I to argue!
