sanding and staining
I am currently sanding back an old table to eventually stain it. The legs are covered with "hardboard" and i was wondering if anyone can tell me if hardboard is receptive to staining or not.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
You will find that most timber will stain, it is always best to try it out in a piece of scrap or on some where that wont be seen.
Ok, I just saw that you ment hardboard, and not hardwood.
Same applies.

If by hardboard you mean masonite or similar. Shes already prety dark mate.
It does varnish well.
If you mean MDF or similar light boards.
I hate to say this but it can clear finish & look quite atractive so it would probably look ok with some colour added. If it stained at all well.
try what have you got to loose
