query on search function
Just wondering if there is a reason that three letter words cannot be used in the search function. For example ELU ROUTER and BOX JOINTS are just two searches that you might reasonably want to do, but three letter words are ignored.
Cheers

The search function on the forum doesn't do AND's correctly. I always use google to search the forum; try this one out Michael for box joints. You can then apply it to anything you want to search for.

I'm sure you'll find that it isn't discriminating against three letter words. It's just pulling up so many results with just 'joint' & with just 'box'. Any search that doesn't do an AND search is next to useless. The other thing too is that the search orders by most recently posted instead of relevance. I feel your pain Michael!

if you put in "box joint" it will only come up with results containing both words together

Don't think so Carl; here's a search for box joint which comes up with one of your threads and i can't find the word box in it anywhere.... https://www.woodworkforums.com/showth...ight=box+joint. The only reason it was included in the search results was because it has the word 'joint' in one of the posts

I was looking for a thread I started a few years ago. The title is "I must be mad". So I entered the word mad as part of the title and the wongo as creator of the thread. I got nothing.

1st March 2009, 09:01 PM #10As has been said, using Google Search for 3 letter words, or indeed any tricky search, is a better option.
You can either type in site:woodworkforums.com or go to Advanced Google Search, which will give you this option as well as some others.
Or, as Carl has said, combine the 3 letter words with another relevant word, such as Elu Router, surrounded by quotes "Elu Router", that way the forum search does an AND search.
There have been several discussions on this in the past (do a search)

Hi there
If I search "box joint" I don't see the above page in the results.
If I search box joint I see the above post in the results. I also get a lot of pages that contain either box or post within them.
I'm pretty sure everything is working as it would be expected.
regardsSteve

Listen big boy,
We are talking about forum search here, so don’t drag us to your google search.
Why aren’t 3 letter words good enough? If no, why doesn’t it say so instead of saying no items matched.
