    eg 1. believe
    2. receive
    or when sounded as ay as in neighbour or weigh
    .....

    Ahhh, but Cliff, it IS pronounced "thayur"! At least, it is by us Scots

    On a similar vein, we also have 3 different pronounciations for "law", "lore" and "lower" which the guys I used to work with in England couldn't even say, never mind spell.

    "Weird"? Maybe some monk in the 13th century copied it down wrong...
