no im not gettin a new shed i have been asked to asemble a 9m x 7m american barn made by fair dinkum sheds.

i have never done a kit shed this size before.

how long dose it take?
how many people are needed?

i have a front end loader is that going to make it easyer.

but seriously i have built plenty of sheds from timber what are these steel kits like compared to buildign a wooden shed?

I've built a couple of Titan sheds by myself Carl. It took me ages, but I just did it after work and so on. You only need two people. If you haven't done one before I'd say about three days to finish it off (the slab's already done, isn't it?)

My Tips:

Buy a friend.
Adhere rigidly to the instructions. Don't be creative.
Make sure you use string lines for the tek screws along the walls and roof.
Make sure the sheets don't start "walking" (see manual)
Try and buy or hire a cordless impact driver.


The front end loader could be useful for lifting someone up to drill in the Tek screws up high.

3 days is what i was estimateing. i have al the tools needed.

Carl, I have a 12m x 16m barn 6m high at centre line, 5m at skillions. Aussie Made (Vic) kit, they had the Fair Dinkum brochures and seemed to be a retail agent, but the kit came from Stramit. Drive through pair of 2.4 x 2.4 roller doors in one skillion, 5m x 4 truck roller in centre, and another 2,4 x 2.4 in the second skillion, pedestrian door, 3 1.2 x .9 ali windows, aircell roof insulation, and two whirlygigs on the roof.

Biggest one the erector had done to date, but two of them put it up in 4 days, needed a scissor lift for two days to rig the frame and set the insulation and roof up, then finished the walls, spouting doors and windows etc on the other two days. Bribed the suppliers delivery man to come around with small crane truck to hoist the industrial door into place.

Above was erection on a slab square across diaganals to within 2mm and level to within 1mm. Obviously time is dependant on slab, and the amount of extras like insulation, doors, etc involved, but this should give an idea for a similar structure. Guys were darned good, but thats all they do, erect from small sheds through garages to barns, so they know the ropes so to speak.

i gave tehm a quote for 2 blokes for 3.5 days.

They can decide what they want to do.

acordign to the plans there are no windows just 3 roler doors adn 1 personel door.

nothing special.

I have a 9 X 7.5 normal shed from adro. 2 tilts PID and window. Their installers do it in a day. I took a month off work thinking I could nut it out, ended up making quite a few calls to manufacturers for clarifications and hired a mate who's a builder and I laboured for him. Took us several full days work and I had a back that worked back then.

The problem with those kit sheds is some details are left out, like which way a C secion goes round. If you just guess and get it wrong you discover at some later point that it won't go together right. So my advice is if in doubt ring the manufacturer for clarification. 99% is obvious but the other 1% will string you up.

I also made the mistake of letting friends "help". I was out there one saturday morning just looking the bits over and getting it straight in my head. You wouldn't believe it but about 15 people "happened to be driving past" and stopped to "help". By the end of the day my drill was a molten pile and I was further from having an erection than I'd been that morning. My fault. I should have put my foot down.

You don't need more than 2 people, the 3rd will be standing around a lot. 3 - 4 days is probably right although I don't know details of those stepped roofs.
