Hi all. I know this topic has been covered extensively, but my small brain is still struggling with the right way to do it. I've made a 1700x1700 ensuite where there was no bathroom before. All the plumbing's in, villaboard walls up, and it's ready for sealing and prep for tiles and shower/toilet/vanity installation.

The problem is I'm not sure what to do with the floor. The floor is cypress pine. The boards are pretty loose along the wall, slope slightly away from the floor drain, and generally creak and groan all over. In the other bathroom (also from scratch), I nailed villaboard to the boards, waterproofed the lot then tiled. I would do the same here but I'm worried the floor boards are a bit loose and sloping.

I'm not too bothered by the slope (it's only 10mm or so). I thought of a layer of liquid nails or some other adhesive forced into the cracks to hold the boards and then villaboard on top. A mate suggested a small sheet of villaboard at the lowest end with a larger piece over the top and the floor sheet over that, with flexible tile adhesive filling the gaps between the different sizes. This would make the floor more solid as well as fix the slope. I've read here I might be better laying a screed over the villaboard - but will that deal with the floor flex problem? and will the tiles crack later?

I realise I've rambled on a bit...but any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

many thanks, Brett
