Just moved house...3 bathrooms (5 people).

Had a plumber round the other day to fix some of the leaking taps and he told me the gas storage hws (outdoor Rheem"Quick Recovery 170 litre" 31 series) is old and will need replacing soon. I checked the manufacture date and it's 1999.

He told me that due to the new regs in SA (pretty sure gas has now have to have 2.5 stars?) I'd have to replace it with an instantaneous unit (quoted me $2.5k for 26 l/m unit).

I asked why so expensive and he said its a bit of work replacing storage with instantaneous.

Is it true that there are no storage units that meet the standard ?
