Howdy,

I'm in the midst of building a deck. It's all going well, we have the posts, bearers and joists up but I realised I don't have anything to protect the timber. We have primed where we did the housing for the bearers in the posts. On doing a search I saw that some people said that it was actually better to use timber preservative for this. Well, it's a bit late for them, but for the joists and bearer that will not be painted what is the best thing to put on them?

I think there's some sort of timber preservative you put on them. If somebody could let me know what it is called that would be great. Also, is it a good idea to put the plastic things on top of the joists. We are using F14 unseasoned hardwood for bearers and joists.

Anyway, the deck is looking great so far. It's 6400mm x 4400mm and everything is nice and plumb, in line and level. Sorry if the question sounds a bit simple but I've been working all weekend and had a few beers.

Cheers,
Stew.
