    Default water-based woodstain?

    hi there,

this is my first post on this forum.

    i have a question about water-based woostain.

i have been trying in earnest to locate a producer of this item. i've been told (by a wattyl lab tech) that they dont have water-based in aus, we only have chemical-based.

apparently they only produce it in europe and other countries that have strict environmental laws.

he also told me that wattyl did have a range of water-based woodstains years ago, but it didnt gain much interest so they dropped it. i'm no expert on this, so i could be completely wrong.

the reason i'm after a water-based woodstain is for an artistic purpose. the specific product i was after came from the U.K. it was produced by a company called Sigma Kalon. they didnt export it to AUS. i tried to see if i could get it shipped here but that was economically prohibitive.

i dont really mind what brand of woodstain it is, just as long as they have a good colour range.

i hope there's somebody here who can help.

by the way, i live in melbourne.

I think Neil aka Mr Ubeaut has water based wood dyes so you could make your own stain colours out of them

    Default mmmmm?

hi, thanks for your prompt reply.

i'm not sure thats what i'm after. the stuff i saw examples of was used just as any ordinary woodstain would be used i.e. thick viscosity, long drying times etc etc.

it wasn't actually "water" as such.....if that makes sense?

    thanks for your info though
