Bathroom and sepearate toilet - ideas?

Hey folks
just moved into my first home and there is a list of projects as lng as my arm (longer actually!) including: polishing floorboards (after ripping up carpet), building a new deck, replacing the kitchen, painting the walls and the bathroom and toilet
I did a lot of construction labouring as a kid so not afraid of hard work - but just dont have the inside knowledge when it comes to these projects

Anyways I was hoping for a bit of info, advice and maybe some ideas

The toilet is 1500 x 890

yeah I know its small - its amusing to open the door and try to get out at the same time
I simply want to retile the floor and and up about 6 inches at the base of the wall, since the old tiles are ugly as sin and cracked to hell
What I would love to know is.. what should I do after removing the old tiles and smoothing back the walls and floor (and yes I need to repain those walls as well)
What should I prep the walls and floors with? something to waterproof and seal them?
What type of grout for the tiles? Ive been told waterproof is the only way to go
I plan to build a really basic shelf set that should sit above the cistern
Any other ideas?

The bathroom is 2030 x 2500

The door opens to your left as you look in and is on the left end of long side
In the corner opposite the door is a floor to ceiling cupboard (desperatly in need of repair / replacement) and in the bottom of that cupboard is a hole into the laundry shoot
There is a bath with a shower in the corner diagonally opposite the door
On the short side away from the door is a window which is a hassle since there is only 700mm space for the shower where it is tiled and this is a major issue since I really want a good size shower - at least 900square - and the plumbing is on the window side wall but what can I do about the window? I dont really want to get a new window!
There is a vanity under the window - which needs replacing
I hope to leave the plumbing where it is if possible...
and the wife wants a bath of sorts....
There is also no extractor fan in the bathroom so I am sure the walls / roof are water damaged by now
So I think I need to totally strip the bathroom down and start from scratch as well

i'm no expert and do not know much about non brick wall bathrooms but will try and help

the toilet ... start working out what you want ..maybe a split door might help the situation and if you get the right one they can look nice .one option would be to use a smaller door frame and door my toilet is the same size but with a 620 door it work fine ..i will try and get a pic for you .

Do some reseach on toilets not all tiolets are the same some stick out from the wall further than others. the closer to the back wall the toilet is the more space you will have .i used a cromma style
As for the wall and floor the wall look ok and once you remove the tiles from the floor you will be able to see if it needs to be replace (im thinking it not concrete )
the waste if you are going to re do the floor i would move the floor waste
further back and use a square top .Personally squares tiles and round waste look odd to me .
lastly and person choice but use a light to mid colour tile and compliment the tile with the paint colour it will make the room (tiolet look a lot bigger )

it might pay to use the reeces bathroom download to map out the floor plan or you could use google sketch up it is very easy to use and a floor plan make it very simple to see what you are working with .

once you have a plan i would gut the bathroom and start fresh if you say the walls and roof need replacing . This will also let you see if any pipe work needs to be moved or replace or strapped down .

if you post what you want in the bathroom and some plans i will try to help further and more forum users with know what you are after .

i have not used villa board to do walls but if you need info on this Rod is your man to ask post in the plastering section and i am sure he will help .
with his great advice i was able to do the ceiling in my bathroom .Two guys two sheets of gyprock and some screws it was not that hard but remember to use paper tape on the joins and back block if possible .
