    Question Garden makeover

    Hi ladies and gents,

We want to lay pavers over our back yard. At the moment it's a jungle of weeds and grass.
    What can we do?
Kill all the grass and weeds with roundup than lay weed mat and cover the whole with road base and sand before laying the pavers? Will this work or do we have to get a contractor in to level it off with a dingo?

Your advice would be really appreciated.

    Tony the reluctant gardener!

Before doing any solid paving you will have to remove all organic material. This will include all vegetative material- weeds, plants and the top layer of soft topsoil. Dig down to a solid soil material (and allowing for finished paving heights) then you can start installing the base rock. Then this will give you a solid foundation to work with.

If it's a large area, save you back and time and get a dingo or bobcat to scrape it off and get rid of the excess soil/weeds etc.
