Default Guess what's going on in WA?

    Well....that was a retorical question...because I can't find an answer......!!!!

OK.....who's going to lead the charge...why haven't the "Sandgropers" organized any BBQ's or get togethers...as such...
What have they all gone to the mines working...
    To the dogs...betting...
    To their sheds...sleeping....

Hey...OK ..I'm game for another BBQ...if your ready for a quick trip to Mandurah...& if I have too, to get this state on the board......lets fling some emails and pm's around....who's game...who's up with the knowledge...

Who's going to be green with envy...just fitted "air-conditioning in the workshop....lol"

OK...WA...woodworkers...men & women...come out, come out, where ever you are......
Have the spa all fired up...& some new pieces...can't believe I used varnish...but it was more practical, being near water for the top of this....hope you like ....lets get a BBQ organized....some comments...any comments...please emial...or PM...bye from Kekemo!
Don't think you're playing it safe by walking in the middle of the road.....that's the surest way to get hit by traffic coming from both ways!
I'm passionate about woodwork.......making Sawdust again & loving it!

Sheesh! Stop teasing us "East Siders" with that spa of yours. Wish I could come. Always wanted to see that side of the island. Maybe one day.

Soooooo??? whats stopping you? Not that silly little thing called life surely! Now just sit back and let me take your mind awandering... now imagine a typical West Aussie day bright warm sun shining down from the azure blue sky... got that? rightio Im not about to destroy that picture by telling you what the damned weathers really doing here... so now the warm sun is shining down around you are a mass of friendly laughing happy faces men women children all meeting and greeting each other over some fine food cooked and prepared by several wonderful people... now imagine holding a nice fine red wine in a beautiful chrystal glass its lush red color sparkling in the light as you gently tip the glass to your lips... now the day progresses and you share your time between people just met and demos in Kerrys finely arranged shed turning your hand to different things showing what you yourself know... now as the day moves on and the warm glow of such fine things and people washes over you you hear this whooosh whoosh sound of burbling waters from the big blue monster in the corner as Kerry and yourown self saunter into the spa in your itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dotted kini's making your way into the monster blue thing under the shade of the massive pergala... glass of red in yer dainty hands... imagine yourself just reclining back feeling the rushing waters playing on your bod as you slowly sip that wonderous West Aussie vino amid fine company

Now what was it that was holding you back??

Hey Kerry! Did anything come of this? Way back in February and only one response??? Bloody pathetic response West Aussies!! Bloody pathetic!!... So let me tell everyone a bit of a yarn... when I visited Kerry awhile back that "spa" thing wasnt there instead there was this MONSTER MASSIVE great table! huge thing it was beautifully made and crafted... And I tell you what a more social and friendly host one cant find I assure you Kerry took me and the nippers Id bought with me on a tour of her home showing us the things she makes (BRILLIANT by the way) and the things her late husband made with her as they shared their time in the shed... A fine man and craftsman a shame I never got the chance to meet... then out to the shed!!!... WELL!!! What a well thought out and planned shed it is everything has its place and there it be clean tidy and well considered lay out... Even Derek would be proud of!! And that fellas got one clean well thought out shed!!... Kerry has a great ability to demonstrate what she loves doing and a wonderfully freindly and encouraging manner as she does so... even yound Brie came away from that day wanting to make SOMETHING!! And I mean this is a girls girl who thinks of the shed as one word "YUK" actually now shes 14 and a half its two words "LIKE YUK" But she actually WANTED to make something

Geez I cant believe only one response to this one Kerry! bloody embarrassing that the only response in all this time was from an eastern stater!!! Sorry no offence tealady but strike me roan this is shocking!!

Okay so Kerry set something up and I will be there... maybe with two of the nippers in tow or maybe just me... but I will donate a swag of veneers some timbers and my annoyingly stupid grin heck I'll even wander up to a few of the local vino places and knock of a few bottles of fine woobly! You supply the tucker and everything else!!... ooh okay if we can wrangle young Derek and his lovely missus (ahem Derek? DONT bring the damned Porche mate cause that will be the end of me!! I get serious porche midlife crisis drool happening around that car of yours) young Ramps and his missus an nippers are sure to come along and what with newcomer Stewie and a couple of others we could have a bloody bottler of a day!... and do "a convoy" from Bunbury Gelorup Dardenup and all areas nearby

And heck even if its just you me and the puppies (you do still have the puppies dont you?) we could still have a bloody bottler of a day!!! By the time weve done the shed to death then eaten all the tucker you will have gotten in for the hoards that we thought would rock up and started into the bottles of woobly Id brung we'd have a right old time in the monster spa!!!

Okay Im in... dont sweat it cause Im a few short months late IM ALWAYS LATE!! but as me ol mum used to say... better late than not at all

Actually this would be bloody nigh on perfect for me about now... something different with a bunch of good people sharing what we are all passionate about... woodworking and woodart... BRING IT ON!!!

tealady? flights to WA are kinda cheep just now... I will whiz up and pick you up from the airport... come on!! you know your just itchin to come over!! GO ON I DARES YER!!! You'll have a flamin ball... I guarentee it!!
    ahem... sooooo?? Whos in??

    Hey Guys....Great Idea

Been away from the forum for a while and missed the original invite.

Getting back into the woodwork again lately and have been thinking it would be a good idea to get together with some other forumites and share our passion for timber and some good ideas and experiences.

I've often noticed threads about some woodworking clubs over east where people of like mind get together on a regular basis to talk woodwork, run demonstrations of all sorts and learn all sorts of things whilst sharing a good time and good company.

I know Kekemo's invitation was for a social get together rather than a workshop type gathering and I will certainly come along if the invitation is extended again. Or any other social invitation for that matter.

However, bearing in mind the number of other dedicated WA woodies who frequent this forum I can't see why we couldn't put together a regular get together of a workshopping nature. I'd be willing to throw my place (southern suburbs) open from time to time, including the workshop.

Interested to know what others think.

    Cheers
    Geoff

Well we have the Perth Woodshow coming up in a few weeks. Traditionally (over the past 5 years or so), we meet for lunch on the Saturday. That would be a good start. We need to put out a post to gather in the bretheran.

I am expecting to be demonstrating for Lie Nielsen, so will be there all day Saturday and Sunday.

At present I do not have much of a woodshop. Renovations still dominate. However, I am happy to help put together a workshop on dovetailing or sharpening or something. I think that that would be a good way to get others together. Woodworkers like to be woodworking.

    Regards from Perth

Geoff... one thing about Kerry is that if she makes a "social" invite to her place believe me the shed IS included!! The woman LOVES her shed and woodworking woodart!!

Id offer to hold one down here... got 2 acres to park up in and plenty of timber and shed space rapidly running out of tools though (thankfully in one way sad as all hell in another) and with some issues happenin not a good idea just now... a few months time no worries but now not an option for me

But I dont mind a bit of travel and meeting people so lets organize something!!

Hey Derek... so your doin demos for the lie neison mob eh? dont they throw enough tools at you that you gotta get more by bein their demo bloke? You do realize Im pretty short on hand planes dont you??? mmmm?? Would be worth going just to watch you muckin about with those beautiful planes

Ok I'm planning on being in Perth in September, to see my daughter and hopefully meet up with some forum members, just not sure when yet. I am going on a diving trip OS, but my plans are not yet finalised, and the Perth trip needs to fit around that.

Good excuse for a BBQ, hopefully my plans will fit in with yours

Well Ding, there is the slight problem of daily life and finances stopping me hopping on planes. (Even sitting down on planes would be a problem although a bit more relaxing.) So all you WA people will have to organize your own shedfest without me. I just don't want to see anymore spa photos. Its just to cruel.

Ok you westerners, this thread seems to have gone quiet, so I need to crack the whip

I've booked my flights and I'm coming over 25 Sept to 7 Oct based in Perth, so you guys and gals have 2 weekends to chose from. I will be arranging a car and can travel most places.

I have a few diving/fishing/tours to organise, but I can work around your offers

Thanks Bob, I was going to PM you to come down to your place anyway to see your set-up, but if others come I'll get to meet them too.

Keeping in mind that Bob has a new aircraft carrier in his backyard, we may be forced to dress up in Naval attire, call each other matie, and occasionally yell out "ship ahoy!".

I will also be there if there is room

    Regards from Perth
