Polyurethane and shellac
I am about to finish a Tassie Oak dresser. The colour I desire can be achieved by a sealing coat of Wattyl Baltic Pine polyurethane varnish. On top of that I wish to put unwaxed shallac and then wax for a wax finish. Will the shellac react with the poly sealer coat? Anyone tried this?

Shellac will stick to just about anything but I wouldn't be putting it over polyurethane especially one with a stain in it. There should be no problem with it sticking but it is most likely that it would move at a different rate to the poly and you would get wrinkling or crazing in the surface.
Sand the poly with 1200 grit to get rid of any brush marks then use the EEE directly on the sanded finish.
Hope this is of some help.
