Power saving devices - BEWARE!!
In Thailand, there are many people trying to "flog" a so called "power saving" device. Ultimately, this device is about Power Factor correction & will not save you as much as purported.
In the USA, these devices are making a big "come-back", with big profits going to the distributors of these "devices".
For all intentional purposes, these devices are useless unless you are billed with regard to your online Power Factor. Induction Disc kWh meters (the old style) do not measure PF but do account for its losses. In other words, only True Power is measured disregarding the line current.
I fear that this type of profiteering may spread to Australia, if it hasn't already done so.
See this American site.

Such emotions make a man forget food, sleep, friends, love, everything.” - Nikola Tesla.
