Default I was surfing in eBay again...

Okay... Those who know me know I have a serious eBay addiction... I was having a cruise around, you know, a break in between doing something productive whereby one actually gets paid, and I came across this:

To help those few who don't speak German, this is me buying a Metabo Bandsaw for EUR150 or around AUD250 - Buy it Now. The description includes such tantalising phrases such as 'Neuwertig': Like New and 'Viel Zubehör': Lots of Accessories.

This machine is also known as: METABO BAS 380 W and now looks like this:

I've already got a Metabo bandsaw in the workshop which I'm quite happy with but for that price, I had to snap it up. The woman who entered it into eBay - because she knows a thing or two about the internet - entered it under Industrial - Manufacturing - Woodworking - Machinery - Sawing Machines - Bandsaws. If she'd put it into Home - Tools, it would have been snapped up in a minute. A good thing I've got a broad-spectrum search that's not picky. About 3 hour's drive to pick it up... I think I'll have it delivered.

Only problem now is, I got no more room in the workshop. I think I'm going to have to sell one of em...

    Bugger!

After a 900 km round trip, the new bandsaw is in the workshop. I feel quite guilty about it to be quite honest. The accessories (guide rollers for blades 3mm and under and 7 new blades) cost more than what I paid. I think the machine was only used once.

    Anyway, here's a few pics:

Here she is sitting on my middle bench. The guide rollers for small blades is on the table. The new blades are in their packaging in front.

The entire back (dark green), feet and tables are reinforced cast aluminium. It's an induction motor so it's nice and quiet.

When you lower the guide assembly to the table, it becomes possible to turn a black knob. This enables the plastic guard to slide around the curve. The blade is then sealed off and the sanding disk opened.

The table can be angled and has T slots to take the angle guide

The whole thing makes a lovely impression and I'm debating on whether or not to keep it... It was one of the last Magnum machines marketed by Metabo. And the green fits so well to the rest of 'em...

    BUGGER!!!

Great pickup Damien (great F1 driving as well, 900km in 6 hours? ).

Looks like a good machine. Motor seems quite big for the size of the bandsaw, what hp is it?

    Nice one Damien

I am curious as to how blade travels on the inside. If it's not to much trouble, could you post a picture with the covers opened. Thanks
    Cheers

The motor is a single phase puting out 500W...

Here's a look at the insides... No flex in this design...

407 km/h top speed. Never seen one in real life though... Rather expensive for a VW...
