Danish oil warping bench top
Hello all, Have just had a bench top made 2 metres by 1.1 wide, new Guinea Rosewood 200mm planks 32mm thick. Stained both sides ( bottom to see what colour we liked) have since danish oiled the top (3 coats)and am about to EEE then trad-wax it. Have just noticed quite a curve has developed lengwise towards the top Oiled side, at pesent have it supported along the 2 sides upside down hoping it will sag back level.
The timber was kiln dried or was suposed to be, is it likely that oiling the top has shrunk it a bit ? will oiling the bottom bring it back ?
Was going to oil the bottom anyway to stop the humidity getting at it as we live in Cairns. The weather not hot or humid at present and have only had it 10 days so unlikely that is the cause.
How do I flaten it ? can flex it flat but quite a bit of weight needed, was hoping not to have to fix it down too tightly but may have to, the base is quite strong (brick) so will hold it no probs.

This is a common question here. Been a few lately.
You need to put 3 coats on the bottom and it will hopefully pull it back if your lucky.
What you should have done is put 1 coat on bottom first then top then bottom and so on.
What is happening, is the bottom is absorbing more mositure then the top can, so the grain is swelling more then the top which is causing the bow.
Try leaving it bottom faced up for a couple of days in a dry area, then oil bottomCheers
