Installing decking post ( and deck nails !! )
Hi , new boy to this site but seems everyone is very helpful so hopefully i'll be in luck.
Firstly I'm making a small extension to as pre-existing deck and and need to add a couple more posts . With the deck I have it is going to be very easy for me to attach the new posts to the old deck + handrail etc etc and then have the post suspended in the hole with the stirrup attached . Is it as straightforward as then pouring the concrete in and waiting for it to set ( as everything will already be fixed firmly in place ) . ??? Also I have heard different stories as to whether I can use rapid set concrete or not....any thoughts ?
lastly , I will be nailing merbau to treated pine joists ( to match the existing deck ) . Should i use ringshank which ive heard tend to squeak or twisted shank ?
thanks in advance all
Stu
