Years ago I worked with a Kiwi engineer who had worked for a while in Egypt. When he was pulled up for speeding one night, he pulled out his Egyptian licence and talked gobbledegook, pretending not to understand the cop, until the cop gave up in disgust and sent him on his way. Probably would have been arrested as a terrorist suspect these days.

Do you refer to the population generally, Sir, or the Highway Patrol? I believe the answer is No & No because our politicians don't wish anyone to feel they are a failure. Thus, over here, cutting on the wrong side of the line or whacking the tenon off at the knees are not errors....
