was wondering what finish to put over the hard burnishing oil to stop water marks & the like on the coffee table thats a w.i.p ?
i have never used shelac or any other wax finish so any tips would be appreciated.

Our sponsor's "Hard shellac" should do the trick. Available through most online woodworking shops.

I wouldn't put shellac over hard burnishing oil myself.
If you've got a good finish with it - ie. the pores were filled with the slurry from wet sanding - it should be enough on its own. If you want a higher lustre you can buff the surface and/or apply a light coat of wax and buff.Cheers, Ern

Goodo. You should find the surface pretty durable as is. And if you get marks it's easy to repair them with another light wet sand.

btw There's a test of Danish Oils in the new issue of Australian Wood Review. Organoil's rates well.
