I would't bother filling anything. Sand off any splinters if you can.
Spend your time and effort getting more decking oil or whatever you are using, into it.
External decks are not furniture. If you try to put filler in it could make it worse.
I have a bit on decks here

    Regards
    Bill

Some times what we do to fix holes is to use builders bog tinted down with paint tint to match the colour of the timber. The basic colours for tint to use is red oxide, brown oxide. These are avail at any mitre 10 or paint shop. Go buy 2 x 125ml bottles of juice, drink it and clean them out , take into shop and ask to half fill each one with tint, They will decant it from that tint dispenser that have when mixing paint. they may even nill charge you or a small fee. the trick is to have a coated sample of the timber beside you before you mix the tint to part a of the bog. this will give you a better reading of the colour match. after you are satisfied with the match. Apply hardener to small portions at a time ( not the whole mix or it will go off before you finish with it,) Apply with a 25mm paint scraper. Be neat dont spread it all over the place, confine to hole. let dry then sand of using a sanding block or orbital sander. Their is a lot of seasonal movement in decks so you may need to re do it again it 5 or 10 years or so or at the time you recoat in the future. 3 or 4 coats of oil will do the trick.

Default A NO vote for putty and fillers in DECKS

    Hi Dreadz

Mate don't waste your time with filler on decks it does the board no favours as bog traps moisture and decks move too much so it will fall out anyway... I am just not a big fan of puttying deck nail holes or using fillers on decking at all.The amount of painted structures we have replaced that have been bogged obviously some are done to cover existing rot but others are caused by tradesmen putting bog into untidy joints and harbouring water which just excellerates rot..
    Your choice
