I don't see the problem if it is just a member who has noticed something that is good value and may be of interest to others. Especially given that woodworking related auctions are large and often require pick up only, so may be more suited to others closer to the seller.
Regular members who contribute to discussions with questions and answers perhaps should be given some leeway in having the occasional link to their items without spamming.
New members who log on just to flog their ebay goods should be given a warning. There is no point banning them without warning as they may have just come across this board and should have the opportunity to contribute in the future. After all it was most likely a woodworking item they were trying to sell on ebay and that is why they posted a link here. Now proudly sponsored by Binford Tools. Be sure to check out the Binford 6100 - available now at any good tool retailer.

Thanks Stinky, you've saved me some typing.
We remove spammers and self promoters UNLESS they are regulars who provide input to the forums AND are keeping it to a minimum. Sometimes it can be hard to call and the mods/admins may have to go into a huddle to sort it out fairly.

I can't believe the bargains I've missed on the Forum because I'm not sitting in front of the screen at 1:30am to be the first to send back a PM!

I have no problem at all with this, so long as it is kept within bounds (I see it as being a bit like garage sales - it's ok for someone to do one every now and then, but you don't want your next door neighbour becoming a junk dealer).
Offering stuff on the Forums means that it is likely:
- the buyer will use the stuff - I hate the way people buy tools to collect them, but not use them and drive up the prices for people who want to use them
- the buyer is interested in wookwork and will respect the tool
- the seller and the buyer will perform and behave honourably (unlike eBay) because there is a degree of community reputation at stake that doesn't exist on eBay.
Cheers
