    Default Disintegrating Router Bit

Just saw this article in the news. We've often joked here about the dangers and near misses but clearly this was no joking matter:

A 31-year-old woman has been killed in an industrial accident at a cabinet-making factory in Melbourne.

The woman was operating an industrial router yesterday when the bit disintegrated and a piece hit her in the chest.

WorkSafe has launched an investigation into the accident at the East Bentleigh factory, in Melbourne's east.

    Default Router Bit Disintegrating

Same thing happened to me using an 'F' style bit that is used to joint boards. Nut became loose and parts went everywhere. Company replaced the bit and couldn't understand why the top nut became loose. I was feeling lucky that it missed me till I looked in the mirror and noticed a thin grease line across my cheek under my eye - it was from a washer.
It can ... and does happen.

Holy Sheet, that is tragic isn't it. Just goes to show how dangerous power tools can be!
