Tung oil question
I've never used tung oil before, so maybe its a stupid question, but here goes. It seems the most common method of sanding it for the next coat is to use steel wool. What's the difference between using steel wool and sand paper?

One's made of metal and one's not
Kidding. My understanding (never used it) was that the steel wool, or 0000 at least, gives a better finish because it is finer, and because of the random nature of the structure. No sanding marks....but then at 2000 grit with my eyes I would struggle to see that with sandpaper anyway.
I'm sure there are wiser people here that can add to this.

Just last night I was using tung oil. I am at the finishing stage (two coats have been applied) where I use 1000 grit wet/dry and furniture polish (oil) for excellent results. Real smooth to touch. I have also used other fine oils for this final stage. In all cases I finish by hand polishing with cloth.
As with all finishing, where do you stop..that is the question?
Cheers,
