    Default Ashes Urn

The ashes urn is on display at Brisbane Museum and we went to have a look. It's much smaller than you'd expect, about the height of a tea cup. Impressive all the same.

I thought the ashes inside the urn were the ashes from the bails of the first match. The urn is terracotta (I think) and is believed to have been a perfume bottle. There may be displaced facts within the previous statement.

It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

Win or loose it still goes back to the Old Blightly, doesn't matter if they are holding it without any success on the field or if they play the tests on rigged pitches etc....

Do you really believe it's the original? No way the poms would send that out to one of the colonies. It's like the crown jewels

The Poms wont even let real cricketers come over here, as seen by their performance so far

I had some doubts, but the security is pretty serious, and they had some people from the Marylebone CC there to explain things. A part of the exhibition is one of WC Grace's bats ans some other items.

I believe it's travelling the country following the test route.

Have you seen the security at Tower of London where they display the fake crown jewels?

I suppose they're just trying to appease the calls for it to come out here permanently if we win. Take it on a grand tour then whisk it away home again before any of the thieving convicts can get their hands on it

The whole thing reminds me of the time some of Leonardo's drawings were on display at the Brisbane Art Gallery (which is next to the museum up here). A friend who went and looked at them complained that they were disappointing because they wew much smaller than he expected.

Needless to say the world will remember my friend well past the time Leonardo's forgotten

I have to say, though, that WC Grace's bat wouldn't be good enough for my 8YO these days.

Yes Tenix is a big company and my bit is Warships, Subs are ASC in Adelaide.

It's my firewall here at work saying there was something offensive on the forum. Must have been a bad word in a tyhread title but looks like a mod has cleared it up.
