    Thumbs up Shellawax Glow

For those who haven't used it, I tried out the new Shellawax Glow polish on a Myrtle burl and a Gidgee bowl. I sanded the wood to 2500 grade and put the polish on bare wood. Spun the Gidgee at full speed to burn the polish in and the results were outstanding, looking like a polished glass finish. I couldn't spin the Myrtle very fast as it had a few holes in it and might have come apart but the results were still very good although not such a deep shine. It needs the speed to get the depth of shine.

Thanks for the wrap Brian. Of interest, you will never get the Myrtle to have the same intensity and depth of gloss as the Gidgee because it doesn't have the same light refracting qualities.

Some timbers will flash with the depth and inner glow of opal or tiger eye, (opalescence) whilst others that have had exactly the same treatment will look quite dull in comparison. Generally the lighter coloured timbers will soak up the light whilst darker closer grained woods will refract it back out producing the appearance of a much higher shine.

Funnily enough, some timbers like pine may have a slightly dull surface appearance but at the same time have amazing opalescence that will just about knock your eyes out when treated with Glow.

Most timbers with fiddleback, quilting, flame or some other figuring will also become opalescent when any of the Shellawax family of polishes are applied, even those timbers that usually don't seem to polish to a very bright surface will astound.

This opalescent effect is due to the distortion of the lights rays and the magnificationof those distorted rays by the clarity and shine of the finish, which in the case of Shellawax & Glow is in the timber rather than on the timber like most other finishes. I'm no scientist but it goes something like that. However it works the right finish can make the world of difference.

    Cheers - Neil.

PS Glow is on special all this month http://www.ubeaut.com.au/ubhome.htm if you want to try it out here is a chance to do it at a $10 discount. (Sorry but this offer is for Australian buyers only. Can't send it overseas because it is a flammable liquid.)

Sorry about the free add but I just can't help myself. Hehehehehe.
