Decorum please people.
Ok kiddies.
I don't know whether or not it has to with the advent of Spring, boredom or just plain lunacy on the part of our members but there have been some comments passed on recent time wasting posts.
A lot of our members use the get daily feature to see what posts they have not read and all they get is a lot of drivel which they have to wade through.
Unfortunately placing those members that sprout it can't be placed on an ignore list as they have a lot of information to impart and freely do.
Ignoring the whole thread is not an option either as other important information can be missed.
A little drivel every now and again is OK but some push it to the limit.
On the same line: any sexual references from male members to or about female members will be deleted immediately they are seen and the member/s concerned banned for 24 hrs.
There is a twofold reason for this. Some may have noticed that we seem to be getting more spam than usual because the search engines pick up the words and the spammers move in. The other is that you could be facing a sexual harrasment suit.
Have fun but keep it sane.

I guess we are talking about the "It's Friday again" thread and the Thursday one. Firstly, your second point is definitely taken and no argument.
However, I'd hate to think that the whingers get too much say in what happens. I know the squeaky wheel gets the grease and sometimes it's easier to just do what they want than to argue. But I think complaining that threads like that are causing people to have to wade through a heap of drivel is a bit over the top.
At any point in time if you click New Posts or run the Get Daily link, you would have gotten at most two items in the list. It's not as though it lists every post to the thread. Nobody is forced to click on them. Surprising as it might seem, when I click New Posts there are often very many items in the list that don't interest me for one reason or another. I don't bother with boat threads, woodturning, Festo. Why are the likes of the Friday thread any more annoying to people than these are to me? I still have to 'wade' through them to get to the ones that interest me. The only people who object would be the ones who disapprove of what's going on in the thread.
I'm not having a go at you about it. I know where you are coming from. Someone has had a whinge at you about it and you are taking steps. I just ask that we don't give any one group too much 'say' in what happens."I don't practice what I preach because I'm not the kind of person I'm preaching to."

Apologies to all concerned, my sense of humour is not suited to an open forum so I will keep my posts on track in future.
(This post is in no way intended to cause offence, if it does please advise me ASAP and I will delete it.)

The other thing is that I have this useless, I mean valuable, object sitting on my desk that I was going to give away in a guessing competition that is doubtless going to generate a lot of 'drivel'. So I'm in two minds about it now - the whole idea has been soured a bit.

Silent,
Several remarks were made to us about recent threads and some of the comments (and I must admit by only a few particular members) were pushing the boundaries.
We are not stopping members from having fun, by all means we are not going to turn these forums into similar American forums where the moderators have their stuck up the arses and anything at all not related to woodwork disappears.
Have fun, but when it gets stupid and offensive it'll be stopped!Have a nice day - Cheers

I think is actually referring to the dozen or so 'empty' posts that were being created last night - it made a real mess of the bb. The Thurs and Fri. threads were a different reason.

So can we have a Friday thread, or not?
Let's be honest - it's silly. It's not sane. But it is fun (to me, at least ).
Can we have it if we keep it to Fridays?Retired member

This is a tricky question and I don't envy the mods here. I'm as likely to be frivolous as anyone else ... anyone who doesn't visit the boating section would probably consider me an airhead (I'm not blonde, what's left is grey). But I do feel we went a bit far recently, a wee too much frivolity. That happens. Dad's pulled us up. We'll behave ... for a while, then Timmy will push Jacko and Jacko will ... you know how it goes.
As for the sexual innuendos. Good call. It is very easy to really offend someone, especially using the written word (coz yer grin caint be seen).
Mods rule ... so it's good that we've got good mods.

It reminds me of when I was a young teenager. A group of us were at a mate's house and a couple of the guys were reciting Monty Python, as you do. My mate's mum came in and got right up us. "You're giggling like a pack of schoolgirls". It wasn't the noise we were making, she just didn't approve of the sillyness. She never cracked a smile the whole time I knew her."I don't practice what I preach because I'm not the kind of person I'm preaching to."
