Farewell to my mate Alex
Alex Grieve OAM, born 1922, I received an email from a friend telling me of his passing last Monday.
Alex was a member of the MSO, principal French Horn, a great teacher and on the AMEB examination board, lectured at Melbourne Uni. The list goes on and on.
Every month we (Society of Explorers) would have lunch at Jimmy Watsons in Carlton and Alex would have his favourite seat, his bright red jovial face, the infectious smile and general good humour.
He told everyone that he tolerated me as I 'only' played classical guitar.
Alex was laid to rest on Friday and there was a simple ceremony in Kew, until the end when Alex was wheeled out for his final journey to the rousing fanfare of French Horns outside the chapel.
A truly fitting end for a good friendStupidity kills. Absolute stupidity kills absolutely.
