    Default plaster repair

I've just finished chiseling out about 15 cavities in plaster (render?) covered brick walls each with a 25cm long channel to the floor to accomodate power points and cable. That was the fun bit.

Now I guess I should repair the damage I've done to the wall plaster. I'm not sure whether I should use an all-in-one filler/surface finish polyfilla type product, or replace the mortar and top coat of plaster. The original material looks like its a 13mm deep motar base with a 3-5mm plaster top coat.

I don't have much to repair so cost shouldn't be too much of an issue and I'd probably be prepared to pay a bit more for conveniece, as long as the end result is OK.

If the all-in-one products are OK does anyone have any recommendations?

If the mortar base and plaster top coat is the way to go, what type (composition) of motar should I use? The original looks like the mortar used in old brick walls as opposed to the mortar you see in new walls.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi rscho,

Best to use cornice adhesive, its cheap, go to the local plasterboard shop and pick up a 5kg bag of cornice cement and a 3 kg tub of top coat.

See my tips on patching render on my web site for full details patching cracks in lathen plaster.

Email or call me with where you live and I will tell you the closest place that won't rip you off. There are heaps that will.

    cheers
