Yep! The best bit about some moron telling me the game started at 4am (should've check myself, I guess ) was watching the "Mighty USA" getting beaten by Ghana.

Australian game was good - admire the fact that they could still play soccer (and yes - it is still called soccer) whilst being mugged like that. Especially the first half.

It certainly has seemed like the other side has had 12 players on the field. There were three stand-out errors this morning: the foul on Viduka that wasn't awarded, the hand ball in front of goal that was missed, and didn't the Croatian captain get three yellow cards? How is that possible?

Easy. It was in the extremes of ordinariness. Since in this case ordinary is being used in an ironic understated fashion, it is a polite way of saying that the refereeing was ####ed. So it was extremely ####ed. ####ed in the extreme. At least Harry kept his mouth shut this time.

The ref was a ripper alright, and a pom so I expected better seeing he refs the English Premier League. He made some howlers and when it came to critical errors in front of goal, he wasn't even handed (not biased, just got more critical one's wrong for us than he did for them). Still, he got a few of them right, like the scrum on the aussie goal line.

The three yellow cards would have to be a record wouldn't it? Be interesting to hear him try to explain that one to FIFA.

And Kalac in goal? Give us a break please Guus. Sheesh, the man had a shocker and the goal he let in was a gimme - he had the bloody thing in his hands for heaven's sake. And the defence had no confidence in him. Bad move Guus old boy, particularly seeing Schwartzer's (however you spell it) has done very well up to now.

And didn't our corners become a lot more dangerous when Besciano started taking them.

I've always been a fan of Harry Kewell and believe he's had a rough trot from those who dislike him. He did very well today. Seemed to cover a hell of a lot of ground, so I think we can assume his injury troubles are behind him. Put in a good goal. Set up and took a lot of opportunities. Their defence couldn't handle him.

Big Mark Viduka had a brilliant game too. Very tough. Handled immense pressure with courage and strength. Was always there when we needed him to be. And looked very impressive when he questioned the latest idiocy from the ref - got the mix of outrage and anguished confusion just right

Good match, worth getting up for.

I don't know. He seemed to pick us up for a lot of fairly petty technical fouls and let the Croations get away with murder. It may not be bias but he seemed to be trying to even the score. Then there was the hand ball he called on what's is name which was clearly off his rib cage. I hope he watches a video of the match. That's all I can say.

I sure hope Kalac's performance will mean that Schwartzer is guaranteed to be in front of goal for the Italy match

Kalac had a stinker for sure. The ref too was amazing. It was a pretty dirty sort of game. I was thinking about the talk that Australia is a physical team but boy what about those Croatians? After the second Croat goal the Aussies seemed to be showing a touch of frustration and needed to get back on song. They managed to do so magnificently. The goal that was either in or should have been a penalty on the final whistle was something else too. It's the first time I have seen the ref blow the whistle in a situation like that. The game is normally stopped when the play is away from a goal scoring situation. Either way our guys did what had to be done and will gain confidence from that.

I am thinking that Guus should have a press conference and say that we hope that we get good even refereeing in the next game. Italy is doable. Argentina drew with Holland and they are favourites. We drew with Holland just a couple of weeks ago. I say our team is well and truly in this thing and could surprise a lot of people before they go home particularly the US coach whose foot and most of his calf is stuffed in his mouth right now!

Go Socceroos! What a great team performance. They never stopped pushing forward and they have the technical skills to go with their will to win.

as a born in croatia aussie all i can say is "Go Socceroo's" what a game!!!

those croats were very bad sports - they were at least if not more rough that the aussies. I suppose we shouldnt be too hard on them - it was win or out for either of the teams... very strategic play by the aussie who took it for the team , committed a ticketable offence and got red carded at the end when the cro's went all out attack!! - considering he was gunna miss the next game anyway!

Kalic must be dropped and shcwartser re instituted - that second goal was very stoppable - the first was unstoppable, bad luck!

i still reckon its a purse carrying game, as the ad sez "get up ya sook!!"

It may be my imagination, but today I felt there was a lot "more getting up" specially from the yella fellas.

Not so much of that rolling round trying to milk a penalty after the event? Maybe they just knew the referee hated them, or maybe they're adopting a bit of that "don't show 'em your hurt stuff" they learnt from watching cricket (the world game)!

As a retired official of the sport it was a bit of an eye opener how the game was controlled

I could not believe when a double yellow was issued and the player remianed on the field.

They did a great job as world seemed against them
