    Default Tiling & Painting

    Hi all,

Am currently building a house in Ashby, WA. I intend to tile the living areas with porcelaine tiles. Would anyone have any recommendations of excellent porcelaine tilers?

Also, I'm not getting the painting done with the builder (except for the ceilings). When would you recommend this be done? Some people say to wait at least a year before painting the walls so as to let the structure sit. Does this really make much of a difference? I'm in ho hurry to get the internal walls painted after handover but am just wondering when would be a good time.

    Thanks in advance.

I dont know about tilers because I'm not in your area, but when we built I slipped in on the weekends etc just before completion and painted the place while it was empty. Its heaps easier than covering/moving furniture, or marking carpets. You also get to select the quality of paint and sealers. Visit your paint supplier (not hardware store) tell him you are going to paint the whole house, they will offer discount.

Dont be put off doing ceilings once you get used to a stiff neck it becomes easy.

good luck with doing the painting yourself. Dont let people tell you that it is easy and that it is quick.

As a rule of thumb, it will take 2 professional painters 1 week per 100m2 of a house. so it will take 3 weeks to paint a 300sqm home internally to a standard acceptable by the BSA.

How much money did you save by not getting the painting done via the builder? oh and BTW, the ceilings are the easiest part of the whole job!! out of the 3 weeks mentioned, the ceilings will take one day!!

if you need any advice you can pm me and I will give any advise you need.
