    Question A Woodworkers Honeymoon

As some of you may know swmbo and I are getting hitched later this year(oct 14th), we have been hum'in & har'in over where to honeymoon I wanted to go to NZ but we've decided(not in concrete yet)that Canada seems to be a goer.

Were not real interested in the normal resort type stuff, but are interested in seeing beautiful countryside and culture, particularly architecture and food... woodwork!(she being a chef and me the woodie, we both like architecture)

My questions are what are good places to visit while over there that are our interests, definately paying a visit to LV's with a few $k to spend
We've done a bit of searching on the net but cant seem to find all that much, other than the resort type of stuff...

    DPB any idea's?
What kind of weather can we expect that time of year, will we see snow(neither of us have)? Is there any traditions that we should know of?

Easy. You go to Canada, she can go to NZ. Why ruin a honeymoon by sharing it with the wife?

Jesus mate !.....their only just getting started ! marriage is ok....as long as you setup one of those pre-nup things...and a pre-snipe wouldn't hurt either..... a frontal labotomony should ease the pain as well.

Goodluck Canada does sounds nice though. I've always wanted to see that place. The French sounding girls know how to turn me on.

Maybe Canada wouldn't be a great place for a honeymoon then!!!!

I have heard that Victoria Island (over near Vancouver) is meant to be very picturesque, but I don't know about resorts as such.

I will be moving to Seattle (about a hop, skip and a jump) from Vancouver in the middle of July and so I am hearing a few things about that part of the world. It sounds nice. But if you are talking French Canada, I think that is on the other side.

I've been 'Blackwater rafting' in Waitomo NZ & I can recommend that as something different but not as weird a bungee jumping.

We stayed 2 nights, & the locals thought we were weird.

I would like to go to Canada & see the Tundra after the 'melt' but you will be there at the wrong time of the year for that.

If you do go to Canada, do a cruise up the coast to Alaska.

If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

Two very important questions. How much can you spend, and how long have you got?
You wont get snow in Canada for sure.
I did Alaska, the cruise, and three weeks touring the Rockies last May. Absolutely fab, But no change out of 25-30K. There is no culture to speak of in that area, as it is mainly americanised. It will be cool to cold as it is getting to mid autumn.
As to NZ, the North Island has the culture, South has the scenery, and at that time of the year you should have snow in the South Island. Time wise I would allow 6-7 weeks to drive both islands ( 3 to 31/2 each) if you drive yourselves. ( which I think is the only way to go ) Cost should be about 2K a week all up. But you will be doing a LOT of driving if you do both islands. About 4000 kms PER island. First time we went, we flew into Auckland with the idea that we would see as much as we could in 3 weeks. Never got off the island, and had to do the South a couple of years later.
You ask what to see, and where to go. You wont find much in either country. Lets face it, they are about the same age as Australia, and you dont find much history or architecture here. If I had to choose between them I would go for NZ
    Now for the spanner.
If it was me, at your age, with what I know now, it would be either England or Turkey. If money is reasonably short then go for the latter. Both have the most fabulous views, history, and the people are the best in the world.
If you do England then stay near the Cotswolds, Devon and Wales. If you do Turkey, then fly into Istanbul, stay for a few days till you get used to basics. Then fly to Ankara, hire a car, and go anticlockwise till you come back to Anzac Cove and Istanbul again. Shopping is great in both countries. Particularly gold in Turkey (but wait until you get to the countryside)
Leave Canada until you are older and can afford it. Yes it is lovely, but if this is your first trip, I think it will dissapoint. Just my opinion.
Have a great time where ever you go.
    Tony.

PS. I used to be a travel agent in my younger days. If I can be of help, PM me.

TJ, yep you are correct... a decent Canadian holiday is out of our price range, we approached the TAgents today got a shock we thought as the CAD is only a little more than the AUD that it wouldnt be all that much more than traveling here(excluding airfares).
The prices we got were about $2.5k each airfares, $6.5k each 20day package(all accom/activitys and 1meal per day). So thats $18k then we'd need about that again for spending money!

SWMBO doesnt want to see Europe as she travelled most of it back in 2001 and stayed in Italy for a month to meet her family(she's half Italian)

    Back to NZ I thinks!

    Wrong weekend for Tassie,

WWW show is on 29th Sept. to 1st Oct....

Melbourne show is 20th Oct to 22nd......

Seriously though I'd go the self drive trip to Tassie, It's lovely country especialy the west coast. Only problem is there just never is enough time to see everything you want to.

    Going Skiing...

I'm hoping to get to the Melbourne one again this year. Don't need any big purchases for a while so it may just be a weekend away for me and the other half.
