Deck ledger
Hello to all,I am a newcomer to this forum.
I am in the process of designing a lowlevel deck approx 10x5m,the question i have is can i bolt a ledger directly to the edge of the slab of the house without causing any structural problems. We have excavated down approx 250mm below the brick couse. If this is ok should i be putting a membrane between the timber & concrete.??
Also when bolting bearers to stumps do they have to be notched as I noted recently on a tv show that they bolted the bearers flat to the stumps. thankyou all.

Don't cover the brick/concrete join (termites). Not a fan of decks that close to the ground, but its OK to bolt to the slab, yes put some damp proof material between the bearer & slab. You're right to question those ####wits on telly, I could show you some of their work near where I live.
1 - 2yrs after the extreme bodgover & it aint a pretty site, so yes do notch in the joists to the posts/stumps. If you want the job to last, use this stuff. http://www.joistrip.com/
