    where can i get green universal tint or tint that can be added to a turps based stain...

    yeh that's what i thought, but was'nt sure if it was compatable, want to add some to black japan as it has some red in it, worth a shot to see if i can get that nice brown...

    Universal tint is available at all hardware and paint shops and if you ask nicely they will give you some for nothing from their pain carousel or they may charge you a few cents for it. Most paint shops sell it in 1 litre tins, some have 500 or even 250 ml bottles but you usually have to ask for it as it is often kept out the back.

    Universal tint can be mixed with pretty well anything: water, alcohol, oil and turps. This means you can use it with poly, nitro, shellac, etc and mix it with pretty well any stain to vary colours. It's great stuff.

    :eek: Proof Tint on the other hand, is a spirit bases dye and should not be added to turpentine based stain.
