    Default Navman GPS Navigation Unit

I bought one late Dec last year only to find that the maps are old

I contacted Navman and basically got the company line and was told I got the latest "GPS Maps".

What I didn't get was the latest "maps".

Because it can take a while to take the printed maps and put them into the "GPS maps" you can get discrepencies like a street in a brisbane suburb that has been there for 2+ years not showing up.

Oh and I get the honour to let Sensis know they are not up to date. So Sensis get a free service to update out of date info.

I get told that they are the latest and that if I want to get the next release (which is still deficient) it will cost me another $150+ 9 months later.

When I told them that I felt ripped off thinking that I was getting up to date maps the guys response was to repeat the same old crap.

Not only that he tried treating me like an idiot telling me about how they work and the amount of effort that goes into it. This is after I had already told him that I understood completely how it works and the effort that goes into it.

When I said "What is Navman going to do about a customer that feels ripped off" his response was "we can't make an exception just because you make a complaint"

    What the !!!!

So the guts of it, if you are going to buy one bear in mind that the maps can be 12-18 months old (they don't tell you that when you buy them), try to buy just before the next release and ask for a free upgrade.

Most of all DON'T throw away your melways and don't complain to the company coz they don't give a rats ....

It isn't just Navman, I have a StreetPilot that used to show me going cross-country on the M1 for about 30 klicks. It's fixed now but there are still anomalies - like a roundabout just past Packenham that doesn't exist.

I was thinking of purchasing a UNIDEN GNS8600.
Has any one had anything to do with this model,it seem to have more advantages over the Navman range of navigation units. Any information would be appreciated as these units retail for $1586.
    many thanks Nine Fingers.
