What about coloured oxide powders that they use in concrete and brickies cement available from builders hardware stores.

    S. & S. Stimsons, 21 Mullens St Balmain NSW 2041 have a pretty good range. They are considerably cheaper than artists supply shops. Don't know who their supplier is.

    Their Phone No. is +61 2 9810 1007

    Default Dry Powders

Let me try again, I am looking for "dry powder colors" that are used for doing furniture touch up, they are mixed with Shellac.

Sometimes, these powders are mixed with Shellac to produce an opaque color coating, they are also use for "padding with color."

I tried Timbercon, they only sell liquid dyes for making stains, I'm looking for the dry powder colors which are "normally" sold in small quantities like ozs.

I would appreciate any and all suppliers.

    Thanking you in advance.

    Default Dry Powders

    Thanks for your reply...

I want places that are in Australia.

I am writing a finishing article for one of your woodworking magazines.

I need to know where the readers will be able to buy these colored powders.

    Thanks again.

And have a look at Water Dyes

By the way as a Patternmaker we used to colour shellac with Oxide Powders from builders hardware stores.

    Bazza

Thank you, I think Neil's water dyes are liquids and not powders, do you know for sure that they are powders ( I wish they are powders)

I will try checking out "builders hardware stores".

    Thanks again,
