    Default Cellar Ceiling

    Gedday,
My first thread here so please excuse me if some of my terminology is incorrect. I've got a project happening i.e refurbishing a cellar. I've managed to re-render, seal and paint the walls....whew! if that wasn't bad enough!! Now it's time to do the ceiling. The walls were "Besser Blocks" but the roof of the cellar is the underside of the concrete slab that is my shed floor. I wouldn't find this so daunting if the slab were smooth, but it's not....in fact it is bloody rough, uneven, not finished in any way. I'd say that if I lay a straight piece of timber over 6' that I could see 3/4" of light in some places.Floor to ceiling height is approx 2.2 metres. 4metres X3 metres width. Any ideas (not including give up and off to the pub )
    Thanks in advance,
    Gary.

Well, depends what you are going to use the room for, in my opinion.

If it's a wine cellar, I'd want to give it some accelerated ambience, so I'd probably bag finish the walls and install some authentic old floorboards and joists up in the ceiling - every old cellar I've been into has no ceiling, it just has the underside of whatever floor is above visible.

If it's to be a room, batten it out and gyprock it...

DOn't worry about it, as the spider webs get old and dusty they will cover it up nicely.

You could do one of two things.

    1. Batten it out with steel furring channel and install Gyprock or

    2. Spray it with Vermiculite like they used to do to old home units to hide all the sins of rough concrete.
