get Ubeaut's Traditional Wax
If at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.

I've had a tin of (Wattyl) Danish wax for about 20 years. It's recommended for use over estapol or lacquer, as a kind of final buff to get rid of any nibs. You use it with very fine steel wool. It's like vaseline, quite greasy and easily marked.
