Vanishing Finish
We had our new mahogany floors professionally finished with three coats of satin polyurethane and two additional coats of high gloss polyurethane. This was done before the house was occupied and the floors were allowed to dry for more than a day per coat, so five days plus passed before there was foot traffic. The professional assumed that we would want a satin finish so he went ahead and applied those three coats. We have been in the house for less than three months and the high gloss is gone! You can see little flecks here and there of what appears to be what is left of the high gloss. All members of the family (four of us) and visitors wear socks only while in the house. The high gloss was beautiful and is what we really want for our floors. Any suggestions as to what happened to our high gloss floors? Poor application technique, etc?
