Default Advice sought: Is hardwax oil enough for a desk

I’ve picked up some oak panels with a hardwax oil applied from the ‘factory’ which i intend to to use as top for a couple of sit stand desk frames.

Normally i apply poly to everything to this is a first for me and I’m wondering is it enough for a high wear surface like a computer desk, and if not what, if anything, can be done to improve on it, ideally without having to sand/strip it off

It's what I used on my desk. The desk has been in use for the past few years without a problem.

I do have a full length mat under the keyboard and mouse, which I would recommend for other reasons anyway.

It is used as a hard wearing timber floor coating so would certainly be up to the task on a desk top.
