Gday Grunt, how exactly do these internet radio stations work?

I imagine it's streaming live content, so you need to have broadband?

Would appreciate a brief "how this works".

    Cheers mate.................Sean

You don't have to have broadband but the quality is much better if you do.
With the price of broadband today, it ends up being about the same price as dial up and you don't have the phone line busy while you're online.

It is streaming content. Using something like WinAmp (www.winamp.com) or Windows Media Player or RealPlayer you can connect to the radio station in question.

    If you go to http://www.radioparadise.com/content...=Listen&go=yes

They have a list of ways to connect. If you are running Windows and are on dial-up then you can connect to here and Windows Media Player will open and start to play.

    Hey Termite,

Have you downloaded MUM, the Monthly Usage Meter. It is kind of nifty plus you can start the Radio Stations with just a click.

Yep, a very handy little gadget, what I have done is start up my selected radio station in Winamp and then put it in Winamp Bookmarks so that next time I just turn on Winamp and click on the station I want.

Same as me Termite. just love the free d/l sites on internode
I'm looking at the adsl2 setup at the moment as the price is good and according to the internode blurb we were the first in Aus with it so maybe country living has its advantages

Grunt, had a listen in to RP, 'twas indeed a piece of cake.

No good though if readng the BB as well though (on dialup), keeps cutting in & out. Another argument for broadband

    Thanks for the new experience.

    Cheers................Sean

Broadband is the way to go.

I recently got a Soundblaster sound card without any installation disc, no probs I just downloaded the whole program, 550 megs, and burnt it to a disc.

    Try doing that with dialup.

With dial-up, the radio station is using almost all of your bandwidth. As soon as you click on a web page, it uses some of the bandwidth too. Because you are on narrow band (dial-up) something has to wait. That is when the radio drops out. It can also happen if you send/receive emails.
