QLD checkin app without a google account
I don't and never intend on having a google account... Without a google (gmail) account I can't use google play. My phone is just that a phone so I don't download anything on it, but the authorities and vaxers are getting quite militant about having it so they can see if I'm vaxed or not. And! yes I am, even have the booster for those that really don't need to know but must... The government sites are, well, government sites and pretty useless at giving any sort of constructive information on this...
Is there some way of downloading QLD Check In app from somewhere other than the apple store (clearly won't work for android but to preempt those that try to suggest it) or google play?

so what phone do you have? i'm trying to work out from your ramblings if its an iphone or something android based?
for iphone - no it has to come from here
for android - believe it or not you don't need a gmail account to sign up to google. my Hotmail email address is the email address "assigned" to my google account. I've never had a gmail account.
so yes you can 100% have a google account, and download apps from the playstore with out a gmail address, just use what ever email address you already have.

Search for the Queensland check in app APK. You should be able to side load it without a G account.
You may need to give it permissions to install a non play store app.

Well I'll give you one thing... Your confidently incorrect. You can't in anyway get past not having a google account. When you click on the play icon it takes you to the set up window and there is no option(s) for entering an email or other account information that isn't directly tied to google, which as I said before is also your gmail... Also, you can't add an account through the settings and have it activate the play store... So! Now if you would like to show how you did it I'm waiting... The likely scenario is you have an old(er) android version and aren't aware that they often change how things can be done with each successive upgrade. Each version is becoming more and more restrictive and forcing users to have google accounts to harvest data...

I install apps all the time without using my google account for testing android apps but I am using Samsung tablets. I am. It sure if that makes a difference.
Also bear in mind if you go outside the play store you run a serious risk. The unauthorised non play store apk’s could be malware.

What’s wrong with having a Google account? I was “forced” to open a Gmail account; same as my Apple email, Virgin email and Westnet email. They exist but are never used; I would be hard pressed to figure out what passwords work on them.
The Gmail account comes in marginally useful whenever I try to make one-off purchases online and the company flat out insists that I provide an Email address. I don’t want their junk so it goes into the gmail account where it receives a savage ignoring to.Nothing succeeds like a budgie without a beak.

And if you don't have a smart phone?

Assuming you are in queensland the premise is incorrect.
You don't need the green tick at all. You just carry paper copies of your vaccinations. You can also sign in manually pretty much everywhere. Yes it takes longer, yes it's inconvenient, but it can be done.
The boss's mother had a devil of a time dealing with the smart phone. She did just fine with manual sign on until the boss sorted her phone for her and taught her how to do it.
FB Google etc are incredibly good at tracking your activity. I have accounts with both but use duck duck go for internet search. It seems to use the same engine as google but without the stealth advertising.I'm just a startled bunny in the headlights of life. L.J. Young.

No need to get to snipity. Especially when you're asking for help.
Yes you need a google account, no one is disputing that but you do not need a gmail address to have a google account.
Even taken straight from googles help page

Its a bit of a moot point if you can just download it externally but you can 100% make a google account with out a gmail address. May save you some heart ache on your next app download.
If you're not getting the option to put in an alternative email adress when signing up in the playstore app just goto the google website

There is a degree of paranoia showing here. If you don't trust Google I would assume you shouldn't be prepared to trust an Android phone either since Android is a Google Operating System. Not to mention Chinese modified versions of Android on Chinese phones from the likes of Huawei and Xiaomi.....
A current Android app (If you manage to download the APK directly) will also not necessarily run on any generation of Android phone. I've had to update phones a couple of times just to be able to load or update certain inescapable apps for me that are version dependent.Franklin

Funny as this covid panic goes, the pdf's weren't enough at bunnings. The nice young gal at the garden gate couldn't grasp the idea that the certificate was enough, and I have both the domestic and international pdfs... She, I would guess, was ordered only to accept the green tick on the check in app. I chose not to get indignant but instead went to the front door and walked in... Then got what I needed and walked passed her on my way out LOL. The whole thing is a pathetic mess LOL.

No, it's not paranoia or mistrust, it's that I use my phone, as a phone - literally. It's a hard concept for those under 50 but it works for me. You'd be surprised how long your phone's battery will last and how little data you need when you turn everything off. I can get nearly a week out of my phone on a single charge. I also don't, unless I use maps a lot, use more than a gig of data per month. And!! How relaxed you are because you're not available 24/7 at the whim of whom ever. Re. bosses that don't understand days off are not theirs to interrupt...
