First time posting.
Hi,
Buxton NSW is home for me.
I only found this after buying a couple of woodworking magazines.
Ex mechanic and habitual tinkerer. Rebuilt or restored cars and bikes over the years.
renovated 3 houses and looking for our forever farm to settle and eventually retire.
Played in a band and rebuilt several guitars for fun.
Started watching Youtube clips of luthiers and then really good wood workers, got the bug !
Bought a set of chisels, Japanese saw, marking guage , diamond and water stones etc etc.. Spent a little more than I wanted on 3 or 4
stanley planes from Ebay and stripped them down and fixed them up... a bit addictive that !
Started practicing dovetail joints and today finished my first small box from Kauri with a rosewood top.
I went to a local timber yard and bought some off cuts.
Desperately want a band saw, oscillating sander and thicknesser, have no idea how I will fit it all in my single garage / workshop !!
Cheers

G'Day & Welcome to a top forum .....
There are a stack members in and around Sydney, across NSW plus the rest of Australia and the world.....
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP [Work In Progress] photos with build notes.
Enjoy the forum......
Enjoy your woodwork......
Cheers crowie

Welcome to the forum. Well done on your keen interest in woodwork. I understand that you would like to acquire some machinery and having a source for timber is great.
May I suggest if you have a men's she'd nearby, for 2 reasons. First of all they may let you use their machinery to use, learn without the outlay of machinery. Secondly, the guys and girls on here are great but being able to glean off people first hand may assist you in your skill building.
There are heaps of you tube videos also of woodworkers too.
My last suggestion and of great benefit is the forum itself. There are so many resources for everything here easily catalogued into sub sections.
Again welcome and don't be afraid to ask questions and share your wisdom too.
Regards Tony
